About the Mural

Ginseng production was an agricultural crop for the local Estacada economy prior to World War 1. This mural depicted ginseng farmers, the sailing ship that took the product to Asian markets, the fable of how to find ginseng root with a bow and arrow, and its sale and distribution through Chinese apothecary. The apothecary is based on the historic Kam Wah Chung and Company, a national historic landmark in John Day, Oregon.
